Christmas Custard
(Recipe courtesy of Sugar Twin ~ 4 servings)
| 2 | large eggs, slightly beaten |
| 1 | teaspoon maple flavoring |
| 1/2 | teaspoon ground nutmeg |
- Preheat oven to 325°F. Cube the bread and place in a 1-quart casserole. Scald the milk on top of the stove.
- In a small bowl, whisk together eggs, Sugar Twin, maple flavoring, orange extract, ground nutmeg, and salt.
- Slowly add scalded milk to egg mixture and stir well. Pour mixture into casserole. Bake in a pan filled with hot water which comes halfway up the sides of the casserole for about 1 hour. To test for doneness, insert a knife near the edge of the casserole; knife should come out clean.
- Remove casserole from hot water bath; let stand for a few minutes to cool. Spoon into 4 dessert dishes.
